Exploring My TBR (3)

This is one of my favourite features and it seems to be well received, so I'll be doing two of these posts a month. Enjoy!

How it works

I'll post 5 books from my TBR list on Goodreads, and why they're there. I'll also link to Goodreads so you can add them to your TBR too.  This feature is meant to highlight interesting sounding, but not really current reads. (Btw, I realized this is kind of like The Story Siren's Books To Pine For... but some of these titles are already released, and I'm writing my own synopsis.) This time we're wandering in to the realm of books not published yet.

I've been reading this series for what seems like forever. (Maybe three years?) I'm dying to know by now how it ends. I've read 9 books that have heaped on more and more drama, and right now I have absolutely no idea what happens next. But I want to know! I love the mythology in the series. I love the House of Nights and the Guardians, and the magic. And now I want to start seeing the series start to wrap up.

I thought 13 Little Blue Envelopes was a lot of fun. Travelling the world, gaining new experiences and unraveling a mystery. Seems like this book features even more travelling and fun! Plus now we know the characters a little bit better so more time will be spent on plot than introducing the characters. I don't know why I haven't read this book yet, but I hope I'll make the time.

I see this book everywhere. Seriously. At the library, the bookstore, in someone else's hands, in some blog. I don't know why I still haven't read it though. it was an early 2011 debut- right around when I started blogging and it's paranormal and features Fallen angels and some big (epic, I hope) battle between heaven and hell. What's not to like? I'm a huge fan of the paranormal and this is a title I really want to read.
Entangled

It's the cover that did it. Yes, you see I adore high contrast and one of my favourite colours is red. So this cover is really appealing to me because I just love the colours. The book itself also sounds very cool. Grace wakes up in a white room all alone and with no recollection of how she got there. She has pens and paper to try to remember everything, and it she remembers some stuff but worries she forgot about something very important. I generally really like these kind of books where characters search for truth and the concept of this book very easily piques by interest. Definitely a must read.

Funny coincidence: The Liar Society also features a Grace, but this time she's dead and it's up to Kate to work through the secrets at her boarding school and prove that Grace's death was no accident. Murder mystery! Woohoo! I remember for a time all of YA was about boarding schools, but that trends seemed to have faded (Booo! I liked it!). Anyway, I've seen some pretty cool trailers for this book and it sounds really fun. I don't know why I haven't read this book yet. Looks like a gem. :)

So, that's it for this week. Let me know your thoughts on any of the books here, or on any recs you may have. Have a great Friday!

Exploring My TBR (2)

This was a really successful and fun feature the first time I did it, so I'm going to try to make it semi-regular.

How it works

I'll post 5 books from my TBR list on Goodreads, and why they're there. I'll also link to Goodreads so you can add them to your TBR too.  This feature is meant to highlight interesting sounding, but not really current reads. (Btw, I realized this is kind of like The Story Siren's Books To Pine For... but some of these titles are already released, and I'm writing my own synopsis.)

Burn Bright (Night Creatures, #1)

1. Burn Bright by Marianne de Pierres

This book sounds so awesome. You have a girl trying to find and save her brother, a hypnotic, dangerous world that's not as innocent as it pretends to be. The story itself sounds really dark. I love that. I also get a very vague Uglies/Pretties world vibe from the synopsis that may not be accurate, but is still very intriguing. Plus the cover looks nice. Older followers may remember my love of black and hot pink.

Girl in the Arena

2. Girl in the Arena by Lisa Haines

Admit it: the cover made you think of The Hunger Games right? Well, me too. Gladiators, TV, fighting... this is a book with a crazy interesting premise. Only knock against it is that it has a 3.03 star rating on Goodreads. Ouch. I'm still curious about it though, and even if I don't like the story, Girl In the Arena promises to be an interesting read, right?

Jane3. Jane by April Lindner

Pretty cover... and pink! (Told you I had a thing for that.) I've never read Jane Eyre, and to be honest I really have no plans to read unless I'm required to. I haven't enjoyed any of the "classic" novels I've already read. (Granted, I haven't read anything other than what is required for school.) That being said, I love retellings. And I'm curious to read of Jane and Nico's romance.

Bitterblue (Graceling Realm, #3)
4. Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

*SQUEE* I got this book the other day!!! *coughs* Since I still haven't got to it, I'll still include it here. Bitterblue is a book that I've wanted to read for over a year now. I loved Graceling and Fire, and I'm not even that into fantasy so that really tells you how exciting I find this series. I'm curious to see how Bitterblue does as queen, and the synopsis sounds really good but way too hard to condense into a single sentence. Anyway, this is a must read and I will read this book soon.

Illusions (Wings, #3)
5. Illusions by Aprilynne Pike

I should have read this book ages ago. Seriously, two or three times I saw the book and was this close to reading it but something always got in the way. Wings is a really interesting series because it looks at faeries in a completely unusual way. I've always liked Laurel and I've always had fun reading this series so of course I want to read this book and see how Laurel saves Avalon from this new faerie threat.

Well, that's it folks.  Thanks for reading, and let me know if you've read any of these books and what you thought of them. Did you like them? Any I should get to sooner than others? What overlooked books do you have on your TBR lists? Happy reading!

Exploring My TBR

So, it's March Break, and I've had a hard time posting recently. I've been reading a ton though, and exploring a few really awesome book blogs. I've realized how awesome 2012 is. Seriously, there are so many interesting books coming out with the most gorgeous covers. But, after reviewing (lol) my Goodreads TBR list, I've realized why I shouldn't get too far ahead of myself. I mean, there are so many books from 2011 and 2010, and 20-whatever I still haven't read. Why not be excited for them all?

That's where this feature comes in. I'll basically post 5 books on my TBR, and why they're there. I'll also link to Goodreads so you can add them to your TBR too. I don't know if this will be a regular feature, or a one-timer. It depends on how much fun I have writing the post, and you guys have reading the post. (Btw, I realized this is kind of like The Story Siren's Books To Pine For... but some of these titles are already released, and I'm writing my own synopsis.)

Here we go.

Stolen: A Letter to My Captor
1. Stolen: A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher
It's about some girl getting abducted at an air port and brought to a desert where her captor expects her to fall in love with him. What the hell? So this book is kind of a "letter" she's writing to him. It sounds really creepy in a way, and also very emotional. The book is unique, and ever since I saw it, I knew it would be my kind of read. The cover helps, of course. My friend read it and she says she thinks I'll like it.  I can't wait till I get it and finally see for myself.

2. Steel by Carrie Vaughn
SteelI'm totally shallow, so when I saw this cover I knew it would be a book I'd find interesting and put it on my TBR just because of that. For the first time today I actually read the synopsis, and it's about this girl who does fencing in a bunch of tournaments. One day she finds a real, sharpened sword and she's sent back in time onto a pirate ship by dark magic. Wow. I haven't really read enough about pirates, so that's an interesting aspect of the book. I think it will have lots of action and I'm expecting the MC to be very strong. As long as it fulfills those two hopes, I know I'll enjoy Steel.

The Iron Witch (The Iron Witch, #1)
3. The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney
I have heard a little about this book before and I always made plans to read it. Except I never actually did read it yet, which is why it's still on my TBR. It's about fey! And alchemy! Those are two plusses, since I do like to read about those subjects. The story is about Donna, the MC trying to save her friend from the fey, who have destroyed her life. They drove her mom insane, and killed her father. This story sounds like it will be dark, and I really want to read it since it's exactly my style.

4. Switched by Amanda Hocking.
Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1)First off, the cover is stunning. I absolutely love it. Anyway, there's a lot of hype about Amanda Hocking I heard for a while, and I'm pretty sure I even read a bunch of reviews about Switched. It's about a girl named Wendy discovering she's not human, and what that means for her. There's more to it, but that was my lame-ass one sentence synopsis. Anyway, in the real synopsis there is some mention of a romance, which is always fun, and I always make a point to read changeling stories, like I do with fey stories. They're interesting and full of possibility. I also know that the mythology in Switched is uncommon, and I like diversity.

Jessica Rules the Dark Side (Jessica, #2)
5. Jessica Rules the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey
A long time I ago I read an absolutely amazing book about some girl dating a vampire. This book had me laughing out loud, smiling, and there were warm and fuzzy feelings. This book has a sequel, and this is it. I really want to read more about Jessica and Lucius, who are such a cute couple. This sequel is about Jessica's life as a vampire princess trying to clear her husband's name from murder. Uh-oh. I expect blood, vampires, and a strong heroine. Plus, I have a thing for reading about princesses. This book is a must read, and the next time I see it I *promise* myself I will read it.

That's it for now. I swear I didn't plan for 4 of these books to be from 2010... they were just the first books that showed up on my Goodreads TBR. So did you find any new titles that interest you? Any book recs to add to my TBR (in general)? Did you read any of these  books and what did you think? Leave it all in the comments!
